the university of southampton is a partner of choice for many global leading higher education, industry, government and funding institutions. through our partners our students and staff have global reach and impact influencing opinion formers and policy makers, carrying out innovative and world leading research, gaining valuable international experience and accessing sustainable sources of funding.


the university of southampton’s international partnerships are guided by our international strategy. We seek to partner with like-minded institutions who are supportive of diversity, inclusion and exploration. Our approach is drawn from our history as a port city, being a major gateway for the United Kingdom into the world and for the world into the united kingdom – as a truly comprehensive university connecting across the oceans in art & culture and science & engineering.

the international relations team provides support in setting up international educational agreements across the university including general memorandums of understanding, study abroad, exchange and admissions agreements. 

as a research-intensive university we have collaborated with nearly 7000 institutions since 2010 producing over 38,000 co-publications. our top 50 collaborators include the french national centre for scientific research and the tata institute of fundamental research, harvard, caltech, mit, eth zurich, uc san diego, and the universities of auckland, northwestern, hamburg and helsinki. for information on university of southampton research including our corporate research partnerships visit our research webpages.

our campus in malaysia has excellent facilities, designed for effective learning with full access to learning resources at the southampton campus in the uk. following the first two years in malaysia our students continue their studies in the uk with access to our world-class research facilities.

dalian polytechnic university (dpu), in the liaoning province of china, and the university of southampton’s winchester school of art (wsa) work together to provide undergraduate art and design programmes.

we work with shanghai university of finance and economics, jiangxi university of finance and economics, and nanjing university of finance and economics to offer students from china the opportunity to study these subjects at a combination of world-class institutions.


singapore partnerships

we work with the singapore institute of management; the agency for science, technology and research: a*star; and nanyang technological university to create opportunities to study law, management, optoelectronics and chemistry and undertake research in an international environment.

worldwide universities network

we are a founder member of the worldwide universities network (wun), a global higher education and research network made up of 18 universities, spanning 11 countries on five continents. together we drive international research collaboration and address issues of global significance.
